Is there a way to prevent grey hair? Apparently so!  With pre-mature greying occurring more rapidly than ever, even those in their 20s are starting to see “salt and pepper” far more earlier than their parents.  Scientists are still unsure what exactly causes hair to grey, but L’Oreal may be on the verge of cracking the code.

Currently, L’Oreal is in the research phase of a supplement that would help to mimic the role of the enzyme TRP-2, which plays a protective role in holding pigment in the hair follicle.  L’Oreal has discovered a fruit enzyme that would mimic TRP-2, which would help to protect the melanocytes (cells that provide pigment to hair and skin) in hair follicles.  The supplement would need to be taken before the hair greys–it would not be able to reverse hairs that have already turned grey.

Also on the research path is NYU’s Langone Medical Center, who have discovered a combination of proteins that are responsible for pigments and the pathway these network of proteins follow.  They found that greying occurs when this pathway is deactivated.

So where can you get a hold of this supplement?? Well, you will have to wait till 2015 which is when insiders are speculating the release of this much needed fountain of youth.  Until then, keep the stress at bay, eat healthily and exercise to try to keep as many of your hairs from greying.  Then, you can let the supplement take over.
