You know you have one, you know, one of those drawers full of makeup that you never use? A drawer that is full of eye shadows, blushes, mascaras and a plethora of lipsticks in every imaginable shade (like that bright red lipstick you swore you’d sashay about one glam night).
Be it from a spontaneous new season line purchase from your favorite brand or from that free gift with purchase (which we all know we buy JUST to get the gift), that makeup has to be used–or be tossed.
So let’s consider all of those lipsticks. If you’ve had them for more than 2 years, they smell bad or they have gotten hard–toss immediately! The oils in lipsticks go rancid, not to mention the bacterial growth that lipstick has nurtured over the years. Do your lips a huge favor and throw away. Don’t worry, there are more gifts with purchases coming your way.
But what do you do with all of the leftover usable lipsticks? Surely you want to get use out of them before they go bad, right? Well here are a few tips to get you started.
1) The most obvious one, use them! Pick out 5 of the lipsticks and match your outfits to the color for a week. Have fun and get sassy!
2) Use it as blush. As the colder months approach, your cheeks tend to get dryer so a lipstick will blend in perfectly well. Also, you won’t have to worry about having to find a shade of blush, should you happen to also wear it as a lipstick as well–since the lipstick will be the correct hue and tone for that color. Don’t worry, your bright red lipstick will only look red on your lips. Just apply one dot to the apples of your cheeks, blend with your fingers and voila!–gorgeous, flushed cheeks in the right shade.
3) Use your lighter, pearlier lipsticks as a highlighter. Place on your brow bone, tops of your cheekbones and right above your eyebrows to mimic the effect of a highlighter.
That should give you a fun start to your Spring cleaning…(at least until the next gift) ;-)
